Youth and Dream Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. I feel great honored to be here and talk about the topic, Youth and Dream. Youth is like the sun at eight or nine in the morning. It symbolizes vitality, potentiality and hope. But one’s youth will be pale and meaningless without any dream. If we take the dream as a colorful flower, the youth is the best time for seeding. I once thought people at my age shall have almost the same dreams, such as traveling around the world or owning an interesting job, which are glorious and could be realized with efforts. However, after seeing a documentary, I just find out that some dreams of the youth are cruel and frustrated. In China, about 15 million young people chose to leave their hometown and make a living in the big cities. One third of them are girls at my age. Their daily life is full of suffering. For example, young girls in the factories of Dongguan, have to work 11 hours a day and 6 days a week. They repeat the same actions for ten thousands of times. Their job has no any technical skill and they will be replaced just like a screw. But, under the heavy pressure of life, by doing tedious and endless work，do they still posses their dreams? The answer is yes. In the interview, many girls said firmly, “We want to learn English, computer-technique; we want to change our destiny”. And what impressed me most is the saying by one of the girls, “A person should have dream while she is young, so that in old age she can look back on her life and feel without regrets.” Nevertheless, the reality gives them a critical strike. When they come back to the small dormitory for 10 girls after work, their knees are too weak to stand straightly and their hands are trembling without stop. When getting tiny salary, the first thing they do is to send most of money to their families in the countryside. To buy some study materials is quite luxurious, not to mention going to training classes. The flowers of their dreams will fade
