The first one is called the maximum value that is set the value of R, G, and B to the maximum of these three. Gray=R=G=B=max(R, G, B) The second one is called mean value which is set the value of R, G, and B to the mean value of these three. Gray=R=G=B=(R+G+B)/3 The third one is called weighted average that is giving different weights to the R, G and B according to the importance or other indicators, and then adding the three parts together.
