* * H. pylori is a causal factor in most cases of peptic ulcer disease While only one in six individuals infected with H.?pylori develops peptic ulcer disease, the bacterium is a major cause of the disease.5, 21 Over 90% of patients with duodenal ulcer and some 70% of patients with gastric ulcer are infected with H.?pylori. The other major cause of peptic ulcer disease, particularly gastric ulcer disease, is the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
