What was his political background? Why was he the target for Assassination? The day of the Assassination: What happened Who killed JFK? Why study JFK? President John Fitzgerald Kennedy He was the 35th President of the United States (second youngest President –born 1917) In November 1963 he had been in office for three years Many saw him as an inspiring leader with charm, wit and good humour Admired the values he shared in his inaugural address Also served in the South Pacific in the military JFK’s Family Life Married to wife Jacqueline Kennedy and had two children Caroline and John. Both seen as a young couple in the political world and were as popular as movie stars. Who was JFK in his political life? Belonged to the democratic party Served in the Senate from 1953-1960 His ‘New Frontier’ speech represented the change America wanted to see His critics and the John Birch Society Many in the southern states disliked him because of his support for the civil rights movements They judged him to be ‘to soft’ on communism John Birch Society was against liberalism,civil rights, the UN and….John Kennedy They resented his agreement with the Soviet Union to ban nuclear weapons testing The Handbill circulated on November 21st 1963 Kennedy critics distributed this in Dallas at the time of the visit So the President took a two day trip to Dallas….
