Abstract. Three-phase slurry bubble column reactor owns a wide application area. This review focuses on the hydrodynamics of the reactor from the findings of published studies, which includes the flow regimes, gas holdup, bubble size and distribution and mass transfer coefficients. The factors affecting each parameter and the status of the research are discussed, and the development of slurry bubble column reactor has also been prospected. At present, the experimental data that can be used in the industrial application is not accurate, an enlargement of the reactor is still a difficult problem, it remains to be further exploring in close to real environment. Introduction Slurry bubble column reactor is a kind of gas-liquid-solid multiphase reactor, so far, it owns wide application area mainly in petrochemical and biochemical industries. Its characteristics[1] are : (1). Generally the gas-solid phase is dispersed phase, and the liquid phase is continuous phase. The operation mode can be divided into intermittent operation and continuous operation. (2). It has no internal movement artifacts but simple structure, excellent heat and mass transfer characteristics, low operating costs, and it is easy to control the temperature of the material and handle solid particles. Although there are lots of literatures[2] about hydrodynamics of slurry bubble column reactor in the world, multiphase flow process is complex, it is necessary to develop further research on the regular of hydrodynamics and mass transfer in slurry bubble column reactor.
