Classroom Management What is classroom management Classroom management is the way teachers organize what goes on in the class. Conditions of efficient classroom management The teacher plays appropriate roles. The teacher provides clear instructions. Students are grouped in a way suitable for the learning activities. The teacher asks appropriate questions. There is discipline as well as harmony in the class. The students errors are treated properly. Controller An appropriate degree of control of the teacher over the class is vital in formal language teaching. When we talk about the advantages of teacher control, we stick to appropriate degree of control. Different activities need a different degree of control, and we use terms like controlled practice, half-controlled practice and free practice to indicate where control is needed and where control should be relaxed. Assessor It is a major part of the teachers job to assess the students work. As an assessor, the teacher does two things, that is , correcting mistakes and organising feedback. 1. Correcting should be gentle. 2. Organizing feedback should not be too critical. Organizer Before organising an activity in the class, the teacher should imagine what the activity is going to be like, and also anticipate pronlems that may arise when the activity is being carried out. Before the Ss start the activity, the teacher should give instructions clearly and concisely so that Ss know how to do and what to do. While the Ss are doing the activity, the teacher shojld walk around the classroom and overhear what the Ss are saying. Prompter When students are not sure how to start an activity, or what to do next, or what to say next, the teacher should give appropriate prompts. Participant TBLT encourage the teacher to participate in students acticities. Guides The teachers responsibilities are to: 1. Activate students prior knowledge. 2. Find each students interests and explore their potential
