Historically Maldives has had a strategic importance because of its location on the major marine routes of the Indian Ocean. After the 16th century, when European colonial powers took over much of the trade in the Indian Ocean, first the Portuguese(葡萄牙), and then the Dutch(荷兰), and the French occasionally meddled with local politics. However, these interferences ended when the Maldives became a British Protectorate in the 19th century and the Maldivian monarchs(君主) were granted a good measure of self-governance. Maldives gained total independence from the British in 1965. Weather and Climate: The Maldives has a hot tropical climate and weather in here is generally warm and humid (潮湿).The temperature of Maldives ranges between 24 °C and 33 °C throughout the year.
