Teaching aims: after the class, the students are able to Guess the meanings of unknown words and phrases, such as armed, sign, look around, catch sight of, give way to, ect. Predict what the following text is about with the help of the picture and the title on the book. Find out the right answers of different kinds of questions by means of some reading skills, such as skim, scan, ect. Express their feelings and opinions about their favorite music actively. Ⅱ. Difficulties and Focus: Encourage the students to predict the main idea with the help of title and picture when they do the reading. Train the students to use some reading skills (scan, skim, etc) to solve different kinds of questions. Ⅲ. Teaching methods: Pre-task—Task-cycle—Post-task (P—T—P) Ⅳ. Teaching aids: multi-media Ⅴ. Pre-reading Step1 Lead-in (5 mins) Brain-storming: List some types of music Listening and guessing: Listen to some excerpts from several songs and guess what kind of music they belong to. the right answer : classical music; country music; pop music; rap; jazz Discussing and speaking: Which type of music is your partner’s favorite one?
