And Cultures Change Objectives To enable the students: To cultivate the ability of seeing through the miscellaneous facts and finding the nature of things, To voice their viewpoints on the problem of globalization freely and reasonably by debating with each other. Time Allotment: the teaching plan will be carried out within 8 periods. Background Information Introduction Globalization has become one of those words with the highest frequency of appearance but at the same time it is also a most controversial issue in terms of its content, implication and consequence. Since the early 1990s, globalization has developed rapidly and brought great changes to the world. However, groups of people across the world, for various reasons, oppose globalization and point to the negative effects of globalization. How should we view globalization? What kind of attitudes should we adopt? So when we read this article, we are apt to ask 1) What is the author’s attitude towards globalization? What makes her adopt such an attitude? How does she present her argument? 2) How does she describe the process from the moving of goods to the changes of cultures? 3) Does the author think that culture’s changing will result in “Americanization”of a “McWorld” ? Why (not)? Globalization, antiglobalization, international conference mention financial can’t come to terms with the definition of globalization for example, when and where does it begin? Some believe it is a good thing, while others believe it is bad and evil, they fight against it, and they have opposite view. Then we may ask 1) What should be an appropriate way to understand this term? 2) What is the author’s attitude towards it? For or against it? How does she look at it? The author believes it is not a choice but a reality, not sth. You can accept or reject, it is sth. Objective, it is a necessity, you have to face it.
