Introduction
The learning experience related to research methodology (RES60102) and the dissertation (DIS60203) spans mainly two semesters: 5 and 6. In the 4th semester, students are exposed to the principles of research in RES60102 and are tasked with completing a research proposal. The dissertation tutoring process begins once tutors have been allocated to students in the 4th semester and continues into the 5th and 6th semesters, leading to the completion of the written dissertation in the 6th semester.
Overview of Dissertation DIS60203
Nature and Objective:
The writing of dissertations involves students in the formulation of research questions and an in-depth exploration of the field of interest. The aim of the dissertation is to propose problems; to utilize theory and data for a scholarly investigation and to articulate some solutions/recommendations/reflections in response to problems.
Learning Outcome:
Upon successful completion of the dissertation, students will be able to:
Recognize the definitions and processes involved in research.
Identify the approaches used to do a literature review and to formulate research questions.
Choose relevant sampling techniques based on research questions.
Make use of quantitative and qualitative methods relevant to hospitality and tourism research.
Structure of the dissertations:
The dissertation consists of two main parts: part I and part II. Part I introduces the research problems and issues. It also establishes the conceptual foundations for the research. Part II operationalizes the problem,
