BRIEF TALK ABOUT THE ORIGINAL MUSIC OF BEYOND COURSE CODE: MUSI 1002A NAME: LIN XIAOHONG STUDENT NUMBER:101023427 Being the only one Hong Kong band to made the transition from underground music with a loyal following to mainstream success, Beyond sometimes was called the “Beatles”of Hong Kong. They continuously proved themselves, and to be the top band not only in Hong Kong, but all over the Asia. Founded in 1983 to 1993 when the lead singer Jiaju Huang fell down from the stage and passed away unfortunately, Beyond published 11 albums in Cantonese and 3 in Mandarin totally, over 110 pieces of songs. Beyond started off playing music as a hobby, but the hobby soon turned into a profession when they found out they were having trouble making a living. As a result, they started to hold concerts and soon because of their excellent performances, they were loved by many fans. In the first five years, Beyond suck in the depression and failed to interest the mass, even the agent told them that if the next album turned out to be a failure, they wouldn’t published their works any more. Thus, there was no other choice that Beyond needed to meet the commercialization and the popular style, which was seemed compromise. To their surprise, it’s this change leading them to build up their real way, more mature, positive, simple but meaningful. The basic reason why Beyond is so popular is that they insists on singing and producing music according to their own style along the way. Therefore, their music differs from others from the ideas, concept and themes and, which their charm consists of. Original music refers to that the music is created by the author himself without any copying, having its own characteristic in content as well as style.
