Groner Endowed Memorial School of Professional Studies DEPARTMENT OF NURSING COURSE SYLLABUS NURS 3311 Introduction to Professional Nursing Fall 2005 Leslie Borcherding, MS, RN COURSE TITLE: NURS 3311 Introduction to Professional Nursing COURSE CREDIT CLOCK HOURS: 3:3:0 COURSE PLACEMENT IN CURRICULUM: Sophomore year. Required before acceptance into the Nursing Program. COURSE DESCRIPTION: An introduction to nursing as a practice profession with emphasis on nursing’s history, roles and relationship to other health care disciplines. The ETBU mission, philosophy and organizing framework are presented. COURSE OVERVIEW: An introduction to nursing as a practice profession. History of nursing, nursing roles, nursing’s relationship to other health care disciplines as well as ethical and legal aspects of the profession are explored. Issues and trends within the health care system including current perspectives of health care and nursing practice are discussed.
