The Great Gatsby was published in 1922 by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Francis was one of the greatest writers in the 20th century in America. Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald (September 24, 1896 – December 21, 1940) was an American author of novels and short stories, whose works are the paradigm writings of the?Jazz Age. ?He is widely regarded as one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century. His novel is a vivid reflection of the nineteen twenties’ the disillusionment of American Dream, showing the appearance of United States during the great depression period. ? To some extent, the story of THE GREAT GATSBY is closely related with the author’s own experiences. f.s. met a rich girl when he was trained at camp. They fell in love soon. But when the girl knew that fitzgerald couldn’t give the life she wanted, she left he mercilessly. In order to win her back, the author worked hard .finally, he became a famous writer, then? the girl and he quickly married. A good time never lasts long, his wife was insane because of too excited. THE G B describes a most brilliant era, but the reader can feel the latent crisis under it. “American dream” is a pursuit of a equality, justice and free country. But gatsby’s dream changed at the beginning. He had a misplaced faith --- materialistic. Gatsby believed that as long as he obtained the possession of money ,he can realize the American dream.his idea had a contradiction between the ideal and reality . Daisy is only a superficial, compromised priorities woman, which doomed Gatsby’s tragic ending. Nick Carraway, a?Yale?graduate and?World?War I?veteran from the?Midwest?– who serves as the novels narrator – takes a job in New York as a?bond?salesman.
