活页练(二) Ⅰ.阅读理解 A At Moore Elementary School,fourth-grader Michael Turri looks forward to the 30-minute jump-rope session at the beginning of the day.“It really gets my brain going,” said the 10-year-old boy.“You need to do it to get through the day.” That’s one of the ways this Nashville school has taken to thwart the growing childhood obesity problem.Students at Moore are required to take PE every day.“Our students are a little less overweight, and their test scores are high,” said Moore Elementary PE teacher Kathy Clark.“I want the same for every student in Tennessee.” Illinois is the only state that requires PE every day from kindergarten through high school. In Alabama,it’s a must until the eighth grade. In other states—California,Kentucky,Maine,Missouri,New York—standards are being developed for health and PE programs. In 2003 only 28% of the US high school students had a daily PE class and about 38% watched TV for three hours or more each school night. Now,elementary and middle schools require only some physical activities, and high schools have so-called “lifetime wellness” classes. But there’s no set time or curriculum. An effect at stricter PE standards has been slowed by cost, because many schools may have to have more teachers.A compromise (折中) would expand a small-scale health program to schools. The health program would simply encourage all students to build strength and take part in aerobic (有氧的) exercise to develop lifetime health habits.Health officials believe added activity would improve not only physical health, but test scores as well. 1.The underlined word “thwart” in Paragraph 2 probably means “________”. A.discuss B.change C.study D.prevent 2.According to the passage, students must have PE lessons until Grade Eight in ________. A.Tennessee B.California C.Alabama D.Missouri 3.It can be inferred from the passage that ________. A.the time and content of the PE lessons is set according to the situation in elementary and secondary schools B.more and more
