* Shown on this slide are three low impedance hydrogel contact quality monitoring return electrodes: adult for patient over 30 lbs, infant for patient between 6 and 30 pounds, and neonatal patient between 1 and 6 pounds. When using an adult pad the applied current is limited to that provided by the electrosurgical generator. Use the lowest power setting with short activations to achieve the desired surgical effect. When using the infant pad the applied current should not exceed 150 watts. Also, the surgeon should use short intervals of power application. An adult PRE should be used for procedures requiring power above 150 watts. When using the neonatal pad, the applied current is not to exceed 300 milliamps on any generator. This value (watts) must be determined for each generator by the Biomedical Department and a maximum output label placed on the unit for easy reference. Current should not be applied for longer than 30 seconds. Please refer to the Instructions for Use (IFU) supplied with the E7512 PRE for specific directions. If you do not have these instructions, please call the number listed below and a copy will be provided. If a neonatal patient is less than 6 pounds but a larger infant pad makes full contact with the patient, then the infant pad may be used. Power settings must remain low due to the small size of the patient. If the neonate is below 1 pound, Valleylab recommends the use of bipolar electrosurgery which does not require the use of a patient return electrode. Valleylab IFUs for E7507, E7510, and E7512. * Placement of patient return electrode under compression type stockings, TED? hose or other compression devices is not a recommended practice for three reasons. The dispersive electrode, when placed under compression stockings is basically sealed off from air circulation. This action could cause an increase in temperature at the pad site causing perspiration, and possibly dislodging the pad that could result in a contact quality
