The Ant and the Grasshopper 1. Retell the story of “The Ant and the Grasshopper” from Aesops Fables after the flash. Aesops Fables refers to a collection of fables credited to a slave and story-teller who lived in Ancient Greece between 620 and 560 BC. Aesops Fables have become a blanket term for collections of brief fables. The fables remain a popular choice for moral education of children today. Many stories included in Aesops Fables, such as The Fox and the Grapes (from which the idiom sour grapes was derived), The Tortoise and the Hare, The North Wind and the Sun, The Boy Who Cried Wolf and The Ant and the Grasshopper are well-known throughout the world. 2. Now read from Line 9 to line 18, the adapted story of The Ant and the Grasshopper by La Fontaine and tell the obvious difference between these two stories. The end is different. 3. What is the significance of the adaptation? To elicit the moral that in an imperfect world industry is rewarded and giddiness punished. To prove the writer’s hostility towards the ants is entirely human. 4. What did the writer as a child react to the fable? My sympathies were with the grasshopper. The story of the Ramsay bothers.
