XX年大学生毕业英语演讲稿 presideent clinton: thank you. tthank you, prresident chenn, chairmen rren, vice preesident chi, vice ministeer wei. we arre delighted to be here ttoday with a very large aamerican deleegation, inclluding the fiirst lady andd our daughteer, who is a student at sstanford, onee of the schoools with whiich beijing uuniversity haas a relationnship. we havve six memberrs of the uniited states ccongress; thee secretary oof state; seccretary of coommerce; the secretary off agriculturee; the chairmman of our coouncil of ecoonomic advisoors; senator sasser, our ambassador; the nationall security addvisor and myy chief of sttaff, among oothers. i sayy that to illlustrate the importance tthat the unitted states pllaces on our relationshipp with china.. i would likke to begin bby congratulaating all of you, the stuudents, the ffaculty, the administratoors, on celebbrating the ccentennial yeear of your uuniversity. ggongxi, beidaa. (applause..) as im surre all of youu know, this campus was oonce home to yenching uniiversity whicch was foundeed by americaan missionariies. many of its wonderfuul buildings were designeed by an amerrican architeect. thousandds of americaans students and professoors have comee here to stuudy and teachh. we feel a special kinsship with youu. i am, howeever, gratefuul that this day is diffeerent in one important reespect from aanother imporrtant occasioon 79 years aago. in june of 1919, thee first presiident of yencching universsity, john leeighton stuarrt, was set tto deliver thhe very firstt commencemennt address onn these very grounds. at the appointeed hour, he aappeared, butt no studentss appeared. tthey were alll out leadingg the may 4thh movement foor chinas poolitical and cultural rennewal. when ii read this, i hoped thatt when i walkked into the auditorium ttoday, someonne would be ssitting here.. and i thankk you for beiing here, verry much.
