There are three common pitch designations: coarse, medium and fine. Each has its proper application area. We have already learned that coarse pitch is recommended where heavier feeds per tooth and maximum depth are required. Coarse pitch cutters are designed with maximum chip clearance and large chip gullets. Coarse pitch cutters, use the least horsepower since they have the fewest teeth. We do not yet know how much horsepower our specific operation will require.
