He is a German psychiatrist, and one of representatives of new psychoanalysis, and the pioneer of humanism psychology(人本主义心理学). Erich Fromm is one of the most famous figures of Frankfurt School and Neo--Freudism in the 20th century. His parents’ character were weird, father capricious, mother suffering from intermittent depression. His unhappy childhood experience was the stimulation of his studying philosophy, sociology, psychology. Fromm extolled the virtues of humans taking independent action and using reason to establish moral values rather than adhering to authoritarian moral values. According to Fromm, the awareness of a disunited human existence is a source of guilt and shame, and the solution to this existential dichotomy is found in the development of ones uniquely human powers of love and reason Escape from Freedom (1941) Man for himself (1947) Psychoanalysis and Religion (1950) The Forgotten Language (1951) The Sane Society (1955) The Art of Loving (1956) The Heart of Man (1963) Sigmund Freuds mission (1970) Fromm considered love to be an interpersonal creative capacity rather than an emotion. Indeed, Fromm viewed the experience of falling in love as evidence of ones failure to understand the true nature of love, which he believed always had the common elements of care, responsibility, respect, and knowledge. He rejects the idea of loving as something magical and mysterious that cannot be analyzed and explained, and is therefore skeptical about popular ideas such as falling in love or being helpless in the face of love. Because modern humans are alienated from each other and from nature, we seek refuge from our aloneness in romantic love and marriage. Naive, childlike type of love follow the principle: I love because I am loved. Mature love principle is: I be loved, because I love.
