I am a Icom Guy and have been using IC-V8000 since last 3 years ... the front firing audio quality of IC-V8000 impressed me a lot and I really wish ICOM add 440MHZ band in the IC-V8000 package. I just shifted to Yaesu for a duel band radio that is FT-7800R. FT-7800R is really a very good radio but the audio out from the built in speaker is pretty weak , absence of signal presence , thick thin audio ,in other words too much high frequency response lack or bass. You will really miss that response on week signals and outdoors in mobile use. I find out in the final audio amp stage that the audio out CAP ( C1211 /220UF) is really insufficient to pass low frequency response so tried with 470UF and find a vital difference in audio quality that was not really before. I have 2 replacement hints , one for professionals one for Beginners. For professional: Just find C1211 ( 220UF) close / next to Audio out black jack on the chassis , unscrew the chassis and de sold 220UF replace it with 470uf with same polarity. For Beginners: cut red color wire from the jack. Find PIN 4 of the ICQ1035 ( LA4425 ) and sold positive leg of 470UF at the pin 4 of the IC negative leg of the capacitor with red color wire CONNECTED WITH SPEAKER.Remain black color wire in the jack fix jack back to its seat. Apply electric / plastic tape on the (-) leg joint of CAP RED any carefully seat the cap inside. *** This modification will only work with internal speaker , no effect on audio out jack, otherwise refer to professional modification method.
