It is still an important trading port. Therefore,many imported foods and ingredients are used in Cantonese cuisine. Examples----Gourmet Festival美食节 Traditional Customs----Morning Tea早茶 Origin of the name:It is said that authentic Boat Porridge should be made on the boat floating on the river, cooked with clean water and even eaten on the boat. Boat Porridge 艇仔粥 The raw ingredients: pork, mince, pig skin, fishskin, crunchy peanuts, spring onion and sometimes beef are also added. The legend of Boat Porridge It is said that a kind-hearted girl called Jinshui put a carp which her father caught back into the river. After few years, her father had a serious disease, she came to river to pray for help sadly. Then a fairy came out from the water and said: “I was the carp you helped a few years ago. As long as you cook fish porridge which has oil brittle thing to sell, you can make money for the cost of seeing a doctor. And your father will recover within 10 days.” Her father was fine since then, this porridge was named “Boat Porridge”. Shunde(顺德) joined the UNESCO联合国教科文组织 Creative Cities Network as the city of gastronomy in 2014.
