SignalTap II Lab (Nios Development Board)  Part I: Initial Compilation Description The circuit (see below) consists of two 4-bit counters (CNT_ONE and CNT_TEN), cascaded to drive a pair of seven-segment LEDs that count from 0 to 99. The output of each counter feeds a seven-segment display decoder. Each counter output also goes to an AND gate that resets the counter to 0 after reaching 9 (Nine or Ninety). “Nine” is also used as the carry output from CNT_ONE to increment CNT_TEN Step 1: Connect Nios Development Board Take out your Nios Stratix or Cyclone development board and connect the power supply. Connect the USB Blaster (USB port) or ByteBlaster II (parallel port) to your PC or laptop. Connect the 10-pin female connector of the USB Blaster or ByteBlaster II download cable to the development board. You will find the 10-pin header near the top left corner of the board. Step 2: Open Project “counter” Compile Design From the Quartus II File menu, select Open Project. Browse to install_directory\AdvQII4_2\SignalTapII\Nios\Exercises and select counter.qpf. In the Project menu, select Revisions. In the dialog box, highlight counter_stratix, counter_stratix_es or counter_cyclone based on your Nios kit and device. If your revision is not checked, click the Set Current button to place the check mark next to the correct revision. Click Close. Note: If you have a Nios Stratix board, be aware it may have an EP1S10 or an EP1S10-ES device. Look at the end of the part number to verify. Select Start Compilation from the Processing menu or press the toolbar button. Click OK when finished. Step 3: Configure Stratix device using Quartus II programmer Open the programmer. From the Tools menu, select Programmer or click the toolbar button. This opens a chain description file (CDF).
