Opium, heroin, morphine, codeine, synthetic opiates,Vicodin,Dilaudid,Percodan,methadone,Darvon,Demerol,andTalwin are classified as narcotics. In addition to their medical uses, these drugs have a euphoric effect which is why they are used as recreational drugs. They also have a sedating effect.
