T: We talked a lot about small talk. Now try to say some words about small talk.
S: informal, unimportant, light, friendly, ordinary, etc.
T: Have you prepared a phrasebook? What will you keep down in it? Today we’ll
go on with the topic.
Step Ⅱ Listening
Task 1: Activities 1 and 2
T: Now please open your books at page 5. Let’s come to READING AND
LISTENING. Do Activities 1 and 2, please.
Then check the answers.
Sample answers to Activity 2:
1. No. From the conversations, we know the speakers don’t know anything about the opposite side. In Conversation 1, they even couldn’t understand each other. In Conversation 2, they are employer and employee. In Conversation 3, the first speaker doesn’t know where the opposite side was born.

3. I think the answers are too short. He should have given the reasons, not just the simple answers.

Task 2: Listening
