Check the homework. Let the students say some-thing about small talk.
Talk about the social skills with the students.
T: As we know, as long as a person lives in society, he will communicate with others. If he wants to get along well with others, he must know something about social skills. Today we will learn an article about social skills. Before that let’s do Activity 1 on page 2.

Task 1: Skimming
T: Now skim the passage and decide what kind of book it is from.
S1: I think it is from a book which tells you what to do at social events. We can guess from the title “How Good Are Your Social Skills” and subtitles “Learn how to do small talk”, “Develop your listening skills” and “Learn the rules”.
T: Good job. Before you read or buy a book, you should form a good habit of deciding whether it is worth reading or buying by reading the title and subtitles or preface. It is very important for you and can save you a lot of time and money.
