Period Four Pronunciation; Writing; Task The General Idea of This Period The contents of this period are Pronunciation; Writing and Task. In the first part of this period students will practice their intonation in exclamations. Then read the passage and find the plot, characters, opinion and the setting of the film. Next, write a review of a film according to the passage students have just read. After putting down the information about the film, students should give their opinions about the film. In the last part of this period, the students are required to write a film page for a magazine. In this period, there will be more group activities, so teachers should encourage students to take part in group work actively and make sure the work can be carried on smoothly. Teaching Aims 1) To train Ss’ writing skills. 2) To train Ss’ listening and speaking skills. Teaching Methods 1) Encourage Ss to speak in class through organizing some practice. 2) Individual/pair/group/class work, reporting, reading, discussing writing. Teaching Important Points 1. Enable Ss to write a film review according the example. 2. Get Ss to learn to write a film page for a magazine. Teaching Difficult Points 1. How to enable Ss to discuss actively. 2. How to write a film page for a magazine. Teaching Procedures Step 1 Pronunciation 1. Play the tape for Ss to listen to and follow. Listen to the exclamations. Does the intonation go up or down at the end of the word or phrase? Let students read through the exclamations first. Then play the recording for them. Play the recording again for them to decide the answers. Play the recording again for them to check. Tapescript: 1 Sure!↘ 2 Really!↗ 3 I see!↘ 4 Good for you!↘ 5 Absolutely!↘ 2. Extension Put them into pairs to practice these expressions, helping each other with their intonation. Ask them to do the dialogues in Everyday English on page 57 in pairs, then change roles.
