Personal Protective Clothing Personnel must wear PPC when material contact could affect their health, including: Liquid, Gas, and Solid materials. Personal Protective Clothing Equipment to protect the body against contact with known or anticipated toxic chemcials has been divided into four categories according to the degree of protection afforded: Personal Protective ClothingLevels of Protection: LEVEL “A” - Highest level of respiratory, skin, and eye protection needed. LEVEL “B” - Highest level of respiratory protection, lesser degree of skin protection. LEVEL “C” - Lesser degree of respiratory protection than Level “B,” skin the same. LEVEL “D” - Work uniform only, not on any site with respiratory/skin hazards. Level “A” Protection Pressure-demand, supplied-air respirator (Escape pack in IDLH atmospheres). Fully encapsulating, gas-vapor tight suit. Inner/Outer gloves. Chemical resistant, steel toe/shank boots Two-way radio Level “B” Protection Pressure-demand, supplied-air respirator (Escape pack in IDLH atmospheres). Hooded chemical-resistant clothing. Inner/Outer gloves. Chemical resistant, steel toe/shank boots Two-way radio Level “C” Protection Air-purifying respirator. Hooded chemical-resistant clothing. Inner/Outer gloves. Steel toe/shank boots. Level “D” Protection Coveralls Boots/Shoes, chemical-resistant, steel toe/shank. Work functions preclude splashed, immersion, or potential for unexpected inhalation of any chemicals. Performance Requirements Chemical Resistance: The ability of a material to withshand chemical and physical change. Durability: The ability to withstand wear. Performance Requirements Flexibility: The ability to bend or flex; pliable. Temperature Resistance: The ability of a material to resist temperature extremes. Service Life: The ability of a material to resist aging and deterioration. Cleanability: The ability to effectively decontaminate material.
