Apollo Apollo was the twin brother of Artemis, goddess of hunting, and the son of Zeus. And Leto. Apollo was the god of music, light and truth. As the god of truth, he could predict the future. Apollo built the Oracle at Delphi, a place where people could go to learn about their destinies. Apollo was a gifted musician who amused the gods with the music he played on the lyre. He was also a great athlete, good at running and shooting arrows. As his twin sister, Arthemis, was the guardian of young women, Apollo was the special protector of young men. He was also the god of cattle and of light and truth. He taught humans the art of healing. Apollo is described as a young man without beard, a perfect example of male beauty. Perhaps because of his beauty, he was represented in ancient art more frequently than any other gods. He is often shown with a bow or lyre. Aphrodite Aphrodite was the beautiful daughter of Zeus and the goddess Dione. Ironically, she married Hephaestus, god of fire, out of duty rather than for love. Sadly, she was unfaithful to her husband most of the time. She had a love affair with Ares, the god of war. One day, finding the lovers sleeping together, Hephaestus caught them in an net and showed them to the gods, putting them to great shame. Artemis Artemis was the daughter of Zeus and Leto, the twin sister of Apollo. A Apollo was the god of the sun, she was the goddess of the moon. Artemis was also the goddess of hunting and wild animals. She loved to live in the woods, and to chase wild animals. Artists showed her as a beautiful young huntress wearing hunting clothes, carrying a bow and quiver of arrows, and accompanied by forest nymphs and hunting dogs, or with a deer at her side. She remained a virgin and was the symbol of chastity. She was believed to be the friend and protector of young women.
