By using t he N RT L equat ion fo r no n-electro lyt e soluti on , the V L E iso therms f or [ bmi m] [ PF6] -H 2O and [ C8 mim] [ P F6] -H2 O binary sy stems w ere cor relat ed w i th deviatio n w i thi n 2 % and the VL E data at ot her tem peratures w ere predicted w it h t he mean relative deviatio n w i thi n 5 %. T he ex perimental infinite dilut ion activi ty coeff icients of some o rg anic chemi cals in i onic liquids C8 H 14 S2 O 4 F 6 N 3 and C9 H16 S2 O 4 F6 N 3 at diff erent tem perat ures w ere co rrelated successf ully wi th the NRT L equatio n , and t he bi nary param eters thus obt ained were used t o study the ef fect of ionic liquid on t he V LE of azeot ropi c bi nary sy stem s. It w as sho w n that V LE f or io nic liquid-co ntaining systems could be w ell represented w it h t he co nventio nal NRT L equatio n. T he relative volati li ty of com po nents could be largely aff ect ed and azeo t ropic point could even be eliminated by the “salt ef fect” o f io nic liquid. Key words :ionic liquid ;v apor-liqui
