How to improve junior students’ Reading Comprehension 如何提高初中生的阅读技能 南溪一中 蒋家容 Introductions During the development of our society, it is important to help students master the correct ways of learning English well. The aim of passage teaching in middle school is to train students to listen, speak, read and write. So reading is one of the most important skills in English teaching. But the traditional teaching in reading is difficult for students to improve their reading abilities, and it can make students become lazy in reading. So this paper is about some reading skills of improving students’ reading comprehension. The paper mainly discusses what I have done in my teaching. I do it from the following aspects: first, choose the proper reading materials, then train them by the following ways: skimming and scanning, author’s viewpoints, structure of passages, structure of paragraphs, students’ anticipation, punctuation and summarizing, finally let the students insist on doing a lot of practice. When students can read articles easily, a real desire to learn exists and half of their jobs is already done. Problems Nowadays, with the development of our society, we do more and more communication with the foreigners; English is widely used in China, such as the introduction to products. English newspapers and magazines become more and more popular, and there are a lot of reading exercises in an examination today, but all these readings must be done in limited time, so English learning, especially reading becomes more and more important and urgent. 3Project implementation 3.1 Choosing proper reading materials As it is known, reading is an important means of receiving messages. The more we read, the more we know. Do students like to read all kinds of reading materials? No, they don’t. Statistically, 89.1% like the passages with great interests, 12% like the passage with large messages. So we think we should choose reading materials from the following aspects: a) The content m
