College of Liberal Arts Department 2010 Academic Year Fall Course Proposal Reseach Methodology on Visual Arts --3 credits / Required (WU Yi Fang) This course seeks to give the advanced art history student an overview of the history and use of art historical methodology. Addressing such key issues as iconography, Vienna School of Art History, the relationship between the image and historical documentation, Formalism, social art history and other central problems in the field, we will attempt to explain these issues and methods as themselves subject to the historical conditions of the academy and the individual authors. 1. Social art history─ Arnold Hauser、Frederick Antal Methodology of Music Research --3 credits / Required (YANG Jin Fong) The course will explore Systematic Musicology in respect to the cultural background, and music’s functionality through interdisciplinary and open-minded explorations according to music research of the choroid, learning the basics of musicology and basic research capabilities. Systematic Musicology use of Music History and Ethno- musicology as a model, because of Musicology specificity, scholars of different fields re-examine the object of study and research method. The courses contents include the basic concept of music theory, different music styles, as well as the analysis of the music’s cultural significance.
