THE DEAN/DAINS/DAYN(E)S GENEALOGY PART 4 William Cyrus Dean and Children and Adams Family William Cyrus Dean History William Cyrus Dean was born 8 November 1840 in Sandy Creek township, Mercer County PA and died 22 August 1901 from dropsy or consumption while living near Norfolk, Madison County NE and was buried in the Westside Cemetery in Westside township, Nobles County MN, one mile east of Magnolia MN. William Cyrus was married to 1) Martha Nicolls Buckingham on 21 September 1862 by Edward McGinley in the Methodist Episcopal Church in Dodgeville, Iowa County WI. This was just days before leaving with the 31st Wisconsin Volunteer Regiment in the Civil War. Martha Buckingham was born 22 January 1844 in Ty-Newydd, Llangynog, Montgomeryshire, Wales to Mine Captain Abraham and Frances Nicholls Buckingham. Martha Buckingham Dean died 31 March 1881, 5 hours after giving birth to Martha Ann Dean in Westside township. Martha Buckingham Dean was buried in the Westside Cemetery nest to William Cyrus. William Cyrus and Martha Buckingham Dean had nine children, seven of which lived to adulthood. The youngest three of the nine were given up for adoption when Martha died. The Norfolk Daily News for Thursday, 22 August 1901 states “W. C. Dean died last night (i.e., early this morning) at his home four miles south of the Junction, from consumption. The deceased was an old soldier and his remains will be forwarded to Minnesota for interment”. The Rock County Herald on Friday, August 23, 1901 states: “Wm. C. Dean, one of the early settlers in Magnolia township died at his home near Norfolk Neb., Wednesday of this week. The remains will arrive at Magnolia tomorrow morning and the funeral services will be held in the church at that place at 10 a.m.” Author’s Note: William Cyrus’ home at the time of death was the W ? of the SW 1/4 of Section 11, Township 23 Range 1W, which is a few miles south of Norfolk NE.
