And its occurrence mainly stems from the use of pun, a common figure of speech. Pun is an expression that achieves emphasis or humor by contriving an ambiguity, in which two distinct meanings are suggested either by the same word to express two or more different meanings or by two similar-sounding words. This paper briefly analyses English ambiguity from the angle of English pun. What’s more, it will put a stress on the use of positive ambiguity, namely, the use of ambiguity of pun since the good use of English pun bears the advantage of enhancing the vividness，vitality and humorousness.
