Step I. Review
Students sing the song “What’s this?” together.
Ask and answer about the concrete objects, like a toy, a cell phone, a telephone.
E.g. T: What’s this? (Point to a telephone)
S: It’s a telephone.
T: Is this a telephone? (Point to a cell phone)
S: No, it isn’t. It’s a cell phone.
T: …
Step II. Task 1 Presentation
Lead in the task and study new words.
The teacher shows an eraser, an orange etc. to the students near him and asks like this.
T: What’s this in English? (Elicit students to answer it
S: It’s a/an …
T: How do you spell it?
S: … (Spell the word with students together)
Then the teacher shows the other concrete objects to the students far from him and asks like this.
T: What’s that in English?
S: It’s a/an …
T: How do you spell it?
S: … (Spell the word with students together)
2. Find a student or more to come to the front, show the pictures or things and ask the others.
3. Students read and spell new words again.
Step III. Task 2 Listening
Listen to the tape on Page 21, 1a, read after it. And then make students to act the dialogs in pairs.
Step IV. Task 3 A guessing game and study the sentences.
The teacher hides a toy or a cell phone in a bag. Call the students attention to the bag, and then let students guess. “Is this/that a/an …” if the answer is wrong, the teacher says” No, it isn’t.” and guess again until the answer is right. So the teacher says” Yes, it is.” (The activity not only warms
