Teaching procedure:
A.Words and expressions
1.Words
Let the students guess a word, using the gameHangman. (Each time the student guesses wrongly, a section is added to a simple picture of a hanging man. If this picture is completed, the man hangs and the guessing students have lost the game.
E. g. _______ tion (pronunciation)
(other words: performance, disappear, helicopter)
2.Word formation
1) Do Ss workbookword formation on page 24.
Answers:
1.operator 2.passenger 3.villagers 4firefighter 5.lawyer 6.reporter 7.leader
2) Look at the pictures and try to find the English letters in them, and form the words about jobs. (in Ss AB Ex. Ⅰ)
Answers: artist, sailor, banker, actress, actor, sportsman
3) Let the students guess the meaning of the following words. (in computer)
boiler (锅炉) cooker (炊事用具) hatter (帽商) fiver (五元钞票)
upper (兴奋剂) tenner (十元钞票) left-hander (左撇子)
4) Let the students say the words that end in -or.
They may say: actor, operator, competitor, visitor, sailor, inventor, and conductor.
5) Let the students fill in the blanks according to the pictures or their common knowledge.
(1) She is ________ the plate.
(2) The weather in the west of China is ________.
(3) He helped his mother ________ a basket and the basket is ________ now.
Answers: (1) drying / cleaning (v.); (2) dry (adj.); (3) empty (v.); empty (adj.)
Let the students give other examples like this. The following examples might be given: rain, swim, nail, hammer, drill, water, hand, record, cook, help, look, visit, question, use, plant, egg, tomato, etc.
3.Expressions
The teacher puts up a paper plate and asks: What is this made of ? (Paper.) / What is paper used for? (Printing books, making coats and houses, etc.) The teacher may say: D
