She is considered by many to be the first American poet. Anne Bradstreet(1612-1672) I. Her Life She was born in Northampton, England. Her father was a steward of the of the Earl of Lincoln. The father , Thomas Dudley, took care of his daughter’s education. She reported that she started reading the Bible at six or seven. At 16, she got married with Simon Bradstreet, who became the governor of Massachusetts in 1645.
