When someone says that he is a bit of a Scrooge, what does he means? Scrooge is a character from the book A Christmas Carol who was known for his lack of generosity. He means that he does not like to spend a lot of money. 2) Have you heard the person, Mother Teresa? What do you know about her? She was a nun who helped poor people in India. When we say someone is a Mother Teresa, what kind of person are we describing? A kind person who always thinks of others before themselves. When we refer to words or phrases like these to talk about another person or thing, we are using allusions. Now read the guidelines of this section on Page56 to know what an allusion is. An allusion is a way of making an indirect reference to stimulate ideas and associations with other things. To make an allusion, you may refer to a person, an event, a place a character from literature or a thing.
