Nature 3.Culture The Mississippi river The Mississippi River is the second longest river system in the United States. Only the Missouri River is longer. The Mississippi flows 2,340 miles (3,766 kilometers) from its source in northwestern Minnesota to its mouth in the Gulf of Mexico. Geography The Mississippi River is the chief river of the largest drainage system in North America. Flowing entirely in the United States , it rises in northern Minnesota and meanders slowly southwards for 2,530 miles (4,070?km, to the Mississippi River Delta at the Gulf of Mexico. With its many tributaries, the Mississippis watershed drains all or parts of 31 US states and 2 Canadian provinces between the Rocky and Appalachian Mountains. The river either borders or cuts through the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana. The Ozarks National Forest Located in northwestern Arkansas in the Ozark Mountains. Has many beautiful streams and lakes. Hot Springs Mountain In Arkansas, there are many natural hot springs. The town of Hot Springs has 47 springs, spouting 3,028,000 liters of water every day. Taking a trip up Hot Springs Mountains to the tower, you can enjoy a view of the surrounding lakes, and valleys as far as 64 kilometers. Literature Many of the works of Mark Twain deal with or take place near the Mississippi River. One of his first major works, Life on the Mississippi, is in part a history of the river, in part a memoir of Twains experiences on the river, and a collection of tales that either take place on or are
