The Army’s Iroquois – the ‘Hueys’ – provided the soundtrack to the Vietnam war and the Sea Kings have been an integral part of maritime support. Operations and exercises alike depend on support from the air. The various aircraft operated by Navy, Army and Air Force provide logistics capability to deliver personnel, materiel and supplies where they are required in a timely manner. This issue of The Link focuses on the aviation aspects of Defence logistics. Looking to the future, the Australian Defence Force has now taken delivery of all four capacious Globemaster C-17A aircraft and these are serving us well in the MEAO. Soon we will see the new KC-30A multi-role tankers in our skies and there will be replacement helicopters for a number of the existing squadrons in the three services. These new capabilities will continue to reinforce the outstanding role of aviation in logistics support of our servicemen and women. The Link is published twice annually in hard copy and online. Its purpose is to publish articles that add to the logistics body of knowledge and inform the Defence and wider community of the role of logistics and logisticians in achieving the ADF’s mission.
