In recent years, English teaching has already been improved prominently in China . More and more teachers have realized the significance to improve listening abilities of students during their teaching, hence they have been making lots of efforts to look for effective methods and ways to develop the listening abilities of their students. With an analysis of the current situation of English teaching in China, this paper suggests some effective methods and ways for developing the listening abilities of middle school students and proves the feasibility. Introduction Since the accession to the WTO, China has made remarkable achievements, whether in economy or eduction .With the rapid development of international communication and cooperation, English has become increasingly significant a global language. In China , English has been a compulsory curriculum, and the improvement of listening abilities in English teaching has already drawn attention of those professionals and teachers, resulting from the Revised Curriculum Standard issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education for students and teachers in middle school. With the help of various practical and updated resources for teaching and learning, teachers have been looking for a variety of methods to expose students to the language for the development of their speaking skills. Many educators in China begin to realize the urgency of improving listening abilities and the importance of the effectiveness of these methods and ways to be taken into practice, which can stimulate studen
