The Redefinition of Female Gothic Through Reading English Female Gothic Novels 女性哥特的重新定义 摘要：“女性哥特”一词的最早提出是在1976年——在《文学妇女》中，英国女性主义文论家艾伦 摩尔斯将“18世纪以来女性作家创作的哥特小说”定义为“女性哥特”。 身为女性就能创作出女性的文学吗？从女性文学的角度看，运用女性主义文学批评的方法，女性哥特的定义应修改为：女性作家创作的，表征了女性意识的哥特小说。女性哥特的定义中，不仅要强调女性作家的性别，还应强调文本中表现出来的“女性意识”。 根据这一定义，本问在哥特小说的背景下，以英国女性哥特为例，从女性文学的视角，借助拉康的他人理论，分析女性哥特在女性意识表现上的特殊性。通过对女性哥特中女性人物的性格及女性作家的创作动因进行了分析，提出：女性哥特表现的是女性如何在意识上摆脱他人的奴役，实现自我。女性哥特小说家的“自我意识”正是在女性哥特小说的创作中得以实现的。 关键词：女性哥特；女性意识； 女性自我意识； 自我； 镜像； 他人 Abstract：In Literary Women, “Female Gothic” is defined firstly by English feminist critic, Ellen Moers. She claims that the Female Gothic is “the work that women writers have done in the literary mode that, since the eighteenth century, we have called the Gothic.” Can “Female Literature” only be created by women? From the perspective of female literature and by using feminist criticism, it is concluded that female gothic must be redefined to be the Gothic novel written by female writers and in which female consciousness is presented. The thesis advocates that the definition of “Female Gothic” should not only concentrate on the gender of female writers but also female consciousness shown in text. According to the new definition, standing on the background of Gothic novel and taking the examples of English female gothic, this thesis analyses the Female Gothic’s specialties in representing female consciousness by using Lacon’s Theory of “Other” from the perspective of female literature. After the analysis on heroines’ character in Female Gothic and female writers’ writing motives, the thesis tends to prove that what Female Gothic represents is how women get rid of others’ enslave and realize their “egos”. Female Gothic novelists realize their self-consciousness through creation of Female Gothic novels.
