Annex II
Work Plan for TPN1 Expert Group
on Land Degradation Rehabilitation and Desertification combating
in Asia-Pacific Region,
In Collaboration with Chinese Academy of Forestry and
Asia Regional Coordination Unit of UNCCD Secretariat
Project title: Land Degradation and Desertification in Southeast Asia sub-region.
Project duration: 24 months for first phase—analysis of data in labs; 15 days for ground observation and field investigation in selected sites of the countries in Southeast Asia Sub-region;
Sites selected for field investigation and ground observation:
Hua Hin, Korat and Khon Khan Provinces of Thailand;
Rangon, Bagan and Mandalay of Myanmar;
Vientiane of Laos,
Siem Reap of Cambodia.
Members of working Group and passport details: totally 6 scientists and experts from TPN1 and Chinese Academy of Forestry and cooperative research institute. The list of expert group is attached as annex below.
Purposes:
Field investigation and ground observation of land degradation and desertification, including soil deterioration, water/soil erosions, deforestation, salinization/alkalization, landslide and vegetation destruction;
Exchange with technicians and scientists of the affected countries;
Site interpretation of images;
Data classification; and Data analysis.
Data needed:
Existing landuse maps and forest distribution maps of the demonstration sites;
Statistics data, regional, subregional and local elements;
Field data of fact-finding areas, such as GPS data; and
Photos.
Requirements, preparation and inquiries from selected countries in Southeast Asia sub-region:
Images and published local maps on soil/land/vegetation and water resources;
Classified data;
Collected data;
Traffic maps;
Expert Group will bring with them GPS Camera, DV, Communication facilities, sampling record templates;
Host agencies are kindly requested to issue Invitation letters, visa letter and contact addresses of each country;
