Technical Comprehensive Summarization of Highway Tunnel Construction in Zhejiang Province of 2002

Abstract: The general condition of tunnel construction in Zhejiang province, such as construction method, anchor shotcrete technology, water-proof and drainage, inside pavement, ventilation and lighting system, administration mode for long and big tunnel, safety action plan and facility design for operation etc have been provided. And issues during the implementation, and some comments forwarded.

General Condition of Construction
Zhejiang Province is located in southeast costal area of China, the area of plain/basin, hill/ mountain and river/lake is some 23.2%, 70.4% and 6.4% respectively with the total population of 46.77 millions (by the end of year 2000), the topography of the Province is quite hilly with the nickname of “70% mountain, 10% water and 20% plain field”. Tunnel, the important construction structure of highway engineering has been developed quickly in accordance with the re-construction of national roads, provincial roads and various local roads within 20 years, especially in accordance with the construction of provincial planned expressway arteries forming 2 longitudinal expressways, 2 transverse expressways, 10 links, 1 ring and 2 channels systems recently, functioned importantly in achieving the prosperity of highway construction.
There are only 64 tunnels with the total length of 14.5km in the Province by the end of Oct.1988 according to the statistical information, and they are all grade 2 or even lower highway tunnels with the average length of 226m per piece, and they are mainly medium or short tunnels with only 3 tunnels of being more than 1km long.
