第四週 重要文法觀念詳解(一) 本週學習目標： 結束基本文法句構的複習後，第四週將進入一些重要的文法觀念說明。唯有理解各個文法名詞觀念後，方能有效掌握本書之結構分析，瞭解基本的英文句構，順利進入從第六週開始的主要課程。 何謂句子/子句(sentence/clause) ？ → 句子可包含子句，所以簡單句本身就是一個句子，不含子句；複合句、複雜句都包含兩個或兩個以上的子句；複合複雜句則包含三個或三個以上的子句。句子/子句的特徵是含有主詞(即使省略，但仍然存在)和動詞。 例如： 1. The senator said that he would not vote for the bill. (主詞是The senator，主動詞是said。he在此是從屬子句的主詞，vote是從屬子句的主動詞) 2. Please sit for a while before your name is called. (此句為祈使/命令句，主詞you通常省略，主動詞是sit。before your name is called是從屬子句) 2. 句子/子句與片語如何區分？ → 句子/子句如上所述，結構上含有主詞和動詞，而片語並不含有主詞和 動詞(這是最大的分別點)；片語是由兩個以上的一群字組合而成，在句子/子句中執行某種文法功能。 例如： One of the companies that ended their relationship with Iran following allegations of nuclear missle development.(此結構為一名詞片語，核心名詞是One。of the companies是修飾名詞one的介系詞片語；that ended their relationship with Iran following allegations of nuclear missle development是修飾名詞companies的關係子句。此結構缺乏主詞和主動詞。) 3. 如何區分片語的範疇/詞類(category)？ → 建立「主要單字」(head: the main word in a phrase)的觀念。一個片語裡頭最主要的單字即稱為head。所以，如果主要的單字是名詞，即為名詞片語，餘此類推。以下為各種片語的說明及舉例： 名詞片語(noun phrase: the head is a noun or pronoun)：任何片語裡頭其「主要單字」為名詞的片語。以下皆為名詞片語(劃底線名詞為核心名 詞)： 例如： 1. the white young man from Australia 2. my best regards to your family 3. the kid who stole my bike 4. Jenny’s annotated fairy tales 5. the theory that the moon was part of the earth b. 動詞片語(verb phrase: the structure in a sentence containing the main verb and its complements and modifiers：含有主動詞和?或此動???的補語及修飾詞的片語。以下劃底線結構皆為動詞片語(小括號為主動詞)： 例如： 1. Jennifer (gave) me her diary. 2. The time (fleets away) like a flash. 3. My classmates (are) all friendly to me. 4. How long have you (been) here? 5. Though the journey is short, the memory of it will (last) forever. c. 介系詞片語(prepositional phrase: a phrase that has a preposition as its head and complement.)：含有一個介系詞當主要單字及當此介系詞補語的片語。以下皆為介系詞片語(劃底線單字為介系詞)： 例如： 1. on the street 2. of doing any work 3. for more than a month 4. in the near out-skirt area 5. with my friends who just arrived in this city d.
