The district abides by the requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Section 504 states that No otherwise qualified individual with disability….. shall solely by reason of her or his disability, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program of activity receiving Federal financial assistance. Title II of the ADA also prohibits discrimination against individuals because of a disability. Compliance Requirements There are several specific steps that schools should take in order to be in compliance with Section 504 and the ADA. Legal compliance issues include: developing a school policy designating an employee as the 504/ADA coordinator developing 504/ADA forms conducting a self-evaluation establishing a grievance pro
