Personalized?Health?Basel?–?Call?for?Seed‐funding?of? Personalized?Health?Research?Alliance?Core?Areas?(RACs)? Background? The national Swiss Personalized Health Initiative (SPHN) is progressing to its implementation in 2017‐2020. In the first years the focus of SPHN is to build up the necessary infrastructures for high quality Personalized Health (PH) oriented research. Overall approx. 40 mio CHF should become nationally available to support IT and inter‐operability of clinical data, 20 mio CHF for bio‐banking and another 20 mio CHF for PH projects. To ensure that the infrastructural measures are really enabling the needs, pilot, PH focused research projects are planned already from the beginning. With increasing duration of the SPHN, initiative the research projects will receive priority in funding. The Basel Personalized Health program has started well since fall last year. Among its activities the collaboration with Zürich is being established and a Joint Steering Committee between Basel institutes and USB with USZ, UZH and ETH has been formed. Very importantly, the two university hospitals, including UKBB are working to establish a joint inter‐operable clinical data warehouse. A critical mission of Personalized Health Basel is to strengthen and enhance the position of Basel‐based groups for success internationally and within the national SPHN initiative. This should occur through networks that include disease research areas, which leverage the connections with PH competences in bioinformatics and bio‐banking, imaging and ‐omics platforms and novel devices for optimized diagnostics and individualized therapies. The seed funding provided by the Basel PH program should strengthen and support these networks and the formation of PH Research Alliance Core Areas (RACs).
