Fault Tree Software 1 Computerised Fault Tree Analysis 1. Tutorial The Fault Tree+ 11.2 program allows fault tree and event tree analyses to be performed in an integrated environment. The program may also be used to analyse fault or event trees independently. Starting the program The program can be started by selecting the Fault Tree+ 11.2 icon. Now try to do the following: Check the program functions from the pull-down menus situated across the top of the Fault Tree+ 11.2 window using the left button of the mouse. Opening the demonstration project From Open Project in the File pull-down menu, select cooling. COOLING TOTAL LOSS OF COOLING SYS1 LOSS OF COOLING TO HEX HEX HEAT EXCHANGER FAILURE r=0 SYS2 LOSS OF COOLING LEG 1 SYS3 LOSS OF COOLING LEG 2 Now examine the contents of the Event Table dialog from the Edit pull-down menu 1. Observe the full set of event names. 2. Select an event by double clicking the event name. 3. Observe the full set of attributes associated with the event. 4. If the event is not “Generic Model” (i.e. Use Local Date Model), select the Edit button in the dialog. 5. Give a value in the Failure Rate box. 6. Click OK to save the change. 7. Quit the event table by selecting Quit. Fault Tree Software 2 Repeat the above procedures for the following table types from the Edit pull-down menu. 1. Generic Model Table. 2. Gate Table. 3. CCF (Common Cause Failure) Table. 4. Label, Notes and Hyperlinks Table. 5. Consequence Table. The attributes associated with an event can be edited and modified. For example, event EP1 can be edited as follows: 1. Select the Event Table from the Edit pull-down menu. 2. Double click on EPI. 3. Select Use Local Data Model. 4. Assign 0.001 to failure rate (ignore other boxes). 5. Select OK to accept changes. 6. Select OK in the Edit Event window. (Please note: failure rate, λ = 1/Mean Time Between failure (MTBF); P(t) = 1 – e -λt ) Now you can close the Eve
