Lead in: * Have you ever had dinner with a foreigner? * Read the text and answer the questions. 1.What is “table manners”? “Table manners” is the customs about how to eat politely. 2.If you are a Canadian ,what do you do when you drop something on the tablecloth? Pick it up and put it on my plate. 3.In China, what does it mean if you are someone’s guest and finish everything on your plate? It means that I haven’t had enough to eat. Presentation: * Free talk 1.It’s rude to put your elbows on the table, but almost everyone does. 2.It’s rude to talk when you have food in your mouth. 3. It’s rude to use a toothpick at the table. * 1.In China, if you drop something on the tablecloth, you usually leave it there. 在中国,如果你把食物掉在桌布上,通常你会让它留在那儿。 drop (1) 及物动词。 滴下;落下;掉下 eg. A flower pot dropped from his balcony. 一个花盆从他家阳台落下。 (2) 名词。 滴,水滴 eg. There is a drop of water on the desk. 桌子上有一滴水。 Language Points: * leave (1) 留 ,留给 eg. He left me a few books. 他留给我几本书。 (2)遗忘;丢下 eg. I left my keys behind.我忘了带钥匙了。 (3)离开(某处)[(+for)] eg. Mr. Smith left the room at two o’clock. 史密斯先生两点离开房间。 * 2.In Canada , if you drop something on the tablecloth, you pick it up and put it on your plate. 在加拿大,如果你把食物掉在桌布上,你把它捡起并把它放在自己盘子里。 pick up (1)拾起 The boy picked up the hat for the old man. 男孩替老人拾起了帽子。 (2) 收拾 You should pick up the tools after work. 工作结束后你应该把工具收拾好。 (3)学到;获得 He was picking up the skills quickly. 他正在很快地掌握技术。 * 3.In China, some people like to help themselves, or others, to food with their own chopsticks.
