Introduction The teacher do casual chatting with Ss, eg. weather. T: Whats the weather like today? Ss: T: We just talked about the weather, right? Do you think we did a serious task or a small talk? Ss: ... T: So, what is small talk? (in English or Chinese) 2. Activity 1 T: Class, the topic of this module is Small Talk. Turn to page 1, read the definitions and answer the questions in Activity 1. T: Work in groups of 3or 4, discuss your answers with your partner. (Then come to the keys together) Keys: Activity 2 Pair-work. Whole class work. Brainstorm for conversation topics. T: We know that small talks happen every day among us. What kinds of topics do you do you usually talk about? Ss: … T: Look at the conversation topics in the table. Work in pairs and discuss the questions below. (Then ask some Ss to share the ideas individually.) Function. Talking about obligation or lack of obligation Small talks happen almost everywhere. They may happen in many social occasions\activities, eg. in a wedding, a birthday party… When we are going to take part in a social occasion, there are something you should\must\have to do, and also something you don’t have to\needn’t do. So, let’s come to page 4, Function. Read the pairs of sentences alone in Activity 1, and answer the questions. (Whole class answer the questions) Work in pairs. Do Activity 3 and 4. Work alone to do Activity 2, and then, discuss in small groups (3~5), and share the ideas with the whole class. Home work: 阅读第10期周报A4-B篇;预习教材2-3页的课文,完成A2-Reading Tasks –A的表格。
