The first part is a passage mainly about the differences between quality newspapers and popular newspapers in Britain and the united states. If your class isn’t of high level or the time is not enough, this part may be dealt with as an extensive reading material. But if so, you can first carry out a survey among the students to check what they know about the two kinds of newspapers, which may serve as the pre-reading activity. In the course of reading the students should consciously compare the differences between quality newspapers and popular newspapers in Britain and the United States, while the teacher can provide them with a chart in which they give them some information about the British newspapers. At last carry out a discussion among students: what are the main differences between quality newspapers and popular newspapers in Britain and the United States. The second part is Task, which aims at teaching how to write about your favourite newspaper or magazine. This is group work. They should gather and decide what to write. At the end of the class teachers can summarize what they have learned in this module.
